Well Happy 2010 to all. And may all those buying or selling this year enjoy a successful sale-ing voyage. Speaking of buyers, we recently had a surprise visit from old friends Johnny Cadwallader (Ocean Emu, Avatar) and the lovely Fran. John is hot on the trail of Ellen Macarthur’s magnificent Irens/Cabaret designed 75ft tri, Castorama B & Q.(Lying Oman, Dubai). John thinks this awesome Aussie built machine would be a perfect contender for the upcoming Around Australia Race – and he’s probably right! He also sees a definite opportunity for later day charters in his home base of the Whitsundays. John’s seeking expressions of interest for both sponsorship and/or co ownership. Anyone out there with some cash and a heartbeat? Contact John on 0412359114 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it if you’re interested in being a part of this exciting proposition to bring an Aussie icon back home and get it sailing again. One person who gave himself a very tidy Christmas/New Year pressie is another friend, Ian Campbell. Ian recently launched his self designed and built (with the help of boatbuilder Eddie Hinsley) 11.95m Polycore™ cat, Lyra. At almost 80 score years, Ian’s achievement is inspirational and from all accounts, his new boat is all he wished for. Check out Lyras launch story by Bob Norson in the latest issue of The Coastal Passage and hopefully look for more on Ian’s cruising adventures in future issues of Multihull World. Let’s hope we see a lot more multis, both one offs like Ian’s and production models hitting the water this year … and maybe even Castorama B & Q soon cruising and racing a stretch of water somewhere near you! Have a good one and Stay Cool! Jo |
